What We Do

The King Street BID team leads and supports an array of community initiatives — from community outreach  to street cleaning, landscaping, public art, promotion, activation and marketing. The goal: a clean, safe, equitable, sustainable, and prosperous community for all.

Created by the City of Charleston City Council, the King Street BID was spearheaded  by King Street property owners who created the Charleston Downtown Alliance (CDA) to manage the district. A private nonprofit organization governed by a board of directors, the mission of CDA is to create a more vibrant, connected, and prosperous King Street using the Business Improvement District as a primary tool.

What’s a BID?

A business improvement district (BID) is a defined area within which property owners are required to pay an assessment in order to fund projects within the district’s boundaries. Designed to help neighbors and business owners collectively plan, fund, and implement initiatives that nurture a clean, safe, equitable, sustainable, and prosperous community, a BID is often funded primarily through the assessment but can also draw on other public and private funding streams.
